MUSICAL CHAIRS JAZZ BAND
MCJB is an intermediate Big-Band style stage band, playing jazz, blues, funk and rock. We have an experienced conductor at the helm.
We rehearse Monday evenings 7pm-930pm in Milton. We take a break after Christmas and reconvene late January but otherwise rehearse most of the year round.
We play at or above AMEB Grade 3 (or equivalent), and to join us you should be able to read music and have good foundation aural skills (intonation, tuning and rhythm). You don’t need to be a “pro.” We value growth, reliability, and community alongside musical development.

Note: We don’t always have availability in this band for all instruments, as we need to consider the balance of musical sound. However, we can let you know if we have current space or an upcoming spot for your instrument, or you can join one of our other ensembles.
RIVER CITY CONCERT BAND
RCCB is a self-directed group playing light classical music, ballads, marches and other popular music.
We rehearse Tuesday evenings 7pm-9pm at Balmoral. We also break for a few weeks over Christmas.
Our players represent a wide range of abilities and experience levels. We are currently looking to grow our band, so we encourage you to get in touch if you are interested - whatever your instrument. We are flexible, adaptive and most importantly, we have a lot of fun!
For any of our ensembles
- We won’t ask you for an audition!
- Come along for three rehearsals before officially joining and paying membership fees - get a feel for if the ensemble is the “right fit” for you. We can assure you, we are very welcoming and we have a lot of fun!!

Membership Fees
Anyone joining an ensemble supported by RCCMA is required to pay an annual membership fee of $20.
In addition, each ensemble has its own annual fee. This varies depending on the costs associated with running that ensemble. For example, Musical Chairs Jazz Band incurs expenses such as a paid conductor and the purchase of big band scores, while RCCB operates as a self-led group with more flexible repertoire requirements.
For Musical Chairs Jazz Band, membership fees are $430 per year.
For the River City Concert Band, membership fees are $50 per year.
We offer concessions for full time students and those on an aged care or disability pension.
